Pardon the dust while we hook up Facebook…

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

We are currently experimenting with FaceBook Connect so that you can use your FB login to login into the blog and to durianseed.com. So excuse us for a bit while we work out the kinks. Once we get it going on the blog you will then see it on Durianseed as well.

Then we will add some other features like allowing you to share venues, reviews and blog posts on Facebook directly.

This is just the first wave of things we will be doing to allow you to use your favorite social network site alongside durianseed.

Thanks!

A word about addresses…

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

As with any large Asian city, Bangkok included, addresses for places can be somewhat confusing. Companies might list their registered address which could be different than their physical location. Addresses in Thailand are technically in Thai so the translation to English can also be confusing. Given all this, we are trying to standardize as much as possible on the way street names are shown on Google Maps.

This way when you look at the map we show the street name in the venue listing the same way it is shown on the map. Also when you print the map you will generally find, but not always, that the street names on the map will match the English printed on street signs. However this is Thailand and it will never be perfect.

Bangkok is a big maze, but hidden in the maze is an amazing amount of things to do. So hopefully the maps will help you find your way and with durianseed you will discover a new city.

Your Profile

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Once you become a user of durianseed.com you will notice that you have a profile you can manage. Anytime you are logged in you can see that at the top of the page there is a link to sign out and a link to your profile.

On your profile page you will see the basic information that you can enter about yourself. You will also see how you can upload an image to be shown on your public profile page and next to all your comments. We also offer the option to use Gravatar as well.

From the profile page you can see links to check your public profile and links to all the reviews you may have added. Anytime you review something other users can click on your image to see your public profile and also see all your reviews.

Over time we plan on enhancing profiles more and giving users the tools to interact with other durianseed users.

Enjoy!

Welcome to durianseed.com

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Here is the excerpt from the about page on durianseed.com:

Durian, Durio, fruit. Durian is considered by many people to be among the world’s finest fruits. Other people find it foul-smelling and unappetizing. Durian fruit is eaten and its seeds dispersed by tigers, who have a passion for the fruit. Gibbons, monkeys, pigs, tapirs and rhinoceros also disperse durian seeds. Durian seeds produce large Durian trees that grow large pointy Durians which produce the fruit.

durianseed.com is a website that embodies the natural cycle of the Durian. People seed the guide with their reviews producing a wealth of information beneficil to all. Enjoy the site and don’t be shy to plant a few seeds yourself.

That should give you a good sense for why we picked the name we did. Since we are only going to be focusing on SE Asia, we figured it was an appropriate moniker.

We will use this blog to teach people how to use the site, announce new things and do our best to stay in touch with our users. The site is just getting going so be patient but we will keep users informed to our progress on this blog.

thanks!
